Shopify Email Marketing Outsourcing Cost Guide
By AAKAR.studio Team • • Updated
The useful question is not just how much an email marketing agency charges. It is what the quote covers, what your team still needs to do and which costs sit outside the proposal. This guide provides a scope-based way to compare Shopify email outsourcing quotes. It does not present a market-average price, an AAKAR price list or a promise of returns. Request an itemized proposal for your own store.

1. Separate setup work from recurring work
An audit, an account migration and a monthly campaign engagement are different purchases. List one-time work separately from recurring delivery so an attractive monthly figure does not hide a large setup requirement. Ask what an audit produces and whether implementing its recommendations is a separate project.
- Identify one-time discovery, integration, migration, template and flow-build costs.
- List recurring planning, copy, design, implementation, QA and reporting responsibilities.
- Record what the brand must supply, approve or implement internally.
2. Define the deliverable, not just the flow count
A quote for five flows is difficult to compare without message counts and entry rules. A short welcome sequence is a different workload from a journey with several segments, languages or product-specific branches. Ask whether the scope includes event investigation, suppression logic, testing and documentation as well as creative production.
- For each flow, record messages, branches, languages and approval rounds.
- Define what counts as a campaign: a resend, localized variant or extra segment may be handled differently.
- Specify mobile QA, personalization fallbacks and handover documentation.
3. Account for the work around each send
Campaign volume alone does not describe the workload. A brand that supplies approved product copy and finished design assets has a different scope from a team requesting strategy, copywriting and design from the agency. Clarify who manages late product changes, revisions, approvals and urgent requests before comparing fees.
- Record who owns copy, design, product information and final send approval.
- Define included revisions and the process for work outside the agreed scope.
- Ask how meetings, reporting and account management are included.
- Check whether asset access or complex integrations require separate work.
4. Keep software and other charges visible
The agency fee and the email-platform subscription are separate budget lines unless a proposal explicitly includes both. Klaviyo describes its email pricing in terms of active profiles and send capacity, with text messaging on a separate plan. Check the vendor's current pricing against your account rather than carrying a generic estimate into the budget.
- Identify email-platform, messaging, app and design-tool costs included or excluded from the quote.
- Check setup charges, usage limits and possible overage or extra-work charges.
- Compare quotes in the same currency and on the same tax basis.
5. Compare the same scope and time period
Use this comparison: total for the chosen period equals one-time work plus recurring fees for that period plus software and approved extras. Choose a period that matches the proposals. Do not compare a setup-heavy first month with another provider's ongoing monthly fee. Leave unknown figures blank and ask the provider to resolve them.
- Compare the same flow, campaign, creative and reporting scope across proposals.
- Document excluded tasks and unclear assumptions instead of treating them as free.
- Record the invoice schedule and where recurring charges start.
- Ask who retains the account, audience data, templates and documentation when work ends.
6. Evaluate the plan as well as the fee
Ask how the provider will establish a baseline, prioritize work and report problems. Attributed email revenue can be useful but should be interpreted alongside store demand and the attribution settings. A clear scope and test plan are more useful for choosing a partner than a fixed uplift promise. The best fit depends on the work you need and the capacity already on your team.
- Request an example deliverable or permissioned work sample relevant to the proposed scope.
- Agree which engagement, delivery and store outcomes will be reviewed.
- Confirm how access, approvals and offboarding will be managed.
